Die Rabtaldirndln
Dreschen: Ein Brauchtum (2026)
In their legendary mix of folk culture, performance, and comedy, the Rabtaldirndln dissect the pervasive misogyny that—like long-standing traditions—is part of our cultural heritage. They reveal the connections between trivial transgressions, misogynistic customs, and a propensity for violence against women. The ensemble delves deep into the repertoire of seemingly harmless jokes, traditional dances, and songs, accompanying them with everyday dialogue and expert knowledge delivered in song. To mark the tenth anniversary of their Hoftheater in Eastern Styria, the Rabtaldirndln invite you to this humorous and combative evening.
Die Rabtaldirndln are a theater group from Graz founded in 2003 by Barbara Carli, Rosi Degen, Bea Dermond, Gudrun Maier, and Gerda Saiko. They write and produce their own plays, which deal with the tense relations between the city and the country and often tackle global issues in this context. Their work has toured in Austria and internationally, in venues including Brut, Vienna; Kosmos Theater, Vienna; SZENE Salzburg; Sophiensæle, Berlin; ROXY Birsfelden; Pathos Theater Munich; and Impulse Festival, Düsseldorf. The members live in Graz and Hainersdorf.
