Azade Shahmiri
Undernote: A Fractured Assembly of Testimonies (2026)
Azade Shahmiri seeks an artistic response to the ongoing catastrophe marked by the war and the suppression of resistance in Iran. Next to narratives, memories, and eyewitness accounts, she focuses primarily on audio and video footage. Through them, Shahmiri creates space for a multitude of voices that are rarely heard in the West. With her solo performance, she presents a living archive of social protest, armed conflict, and collective experiences. The audience comes together in an intimate stage setting, in an atmosphere of shared listening and watching.
Azade Shahmiri is a theater and performance artist and writer. In her work, she moves between text, video, and installation, often interweaving personal narratives with archival materials and documents from the past. Her work has been presented internationally at institutions and festivals including Kunstenfestivaldesarts, Brussels; Wiener Festwochen; Zürcher Theater Spektakel; Kyoto Experiment; Sophiensæle, Berlin; Kaserne Basel; and the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. Shahmiri lives in Tehran and Berlin.
